Sabin School PTA "Room Parent" System

Room parents form the foundation of our Sabin School PTA's volunteerism and community building. Each classroom needs a point-person to organize parents for classroom events, ensure good communication among parents within the classroom group, and help coordinate the volunteer needs of each classroom. This is a great way to get to know families in your child’s class, and form friendships that will last throughout your entire time at Sabin School. We encourage two parents to share the role, especially for Kindergarten through 2nd Grade classes, as the volunteer needs tend to be highest in our youngest grades. We ask each Room Parent to commit to the role for the entire school year, but the role is generally not very time consuming (about an hour a week). Much of the communication from our Room Parents can be done from home via e-mail and Facebook.

ALL VOLUNTEERS MUST COMPLETE THE PPS VOLUNTEER BACKGROUND CHECK
AND TRAINING
(& have it approved) BEFORE VOLUNTEERING IN CLASS.

Library Volunteer Duty

A strong volunteer base is essential to providing the library services to our diverse K-8 students at Sabin School. PTA volunteers serve a vital role in the following areas: check-in and check-out, shelving returned books, and assisting students with the online library catalog tool to find materials appropriate for their reading level.

Once you have confirmation that your (online) PPS Volunteer Background Form has been approved, ask our wonderful Kindergarten teachers about open opportunities to read to our youngest students.

Support at Lunch/Recess

Our Sabin Students love lunchtime visitors! There may be no better way to support their rigorous work in the classroom than providing support while they fuel their bodies at lunch, and get the blood flowing at recess.

This is also a great way to sharpen your four-square and/or hop-scotch skills, and keep yourself young at heart.

Once you have confirmation that your (online) PPS Volunteer Background Form has been approved, ask your teacher about the opportunities to support our students during lunch and recess at Sabin.

Oregon Battle of the Books

The Oregon Battle of the Books (OBOB) is a statewide voluntary reading motivation and comprehension program sponsored by Sabin School PTA Volunteers. Students in 3rd-8th grade, regardless of ability, are exposed to quality literature representing a variety of literary styles and viewpoints. The mission is to encourage and recognize students who enjoy reading, to broaden reading interests, to increase reading comprehension, promote academic excellence, and to promote cooperative learning and teamwork among students. Find the registration form here.

The most important donation you can make to your Sabin School PTA is that of your time. Our PTA volunteers are proud to provide support our teachers and students in so many ways by simply giving of their time, energy and talents. Talk to your teacher today about how you can become a positive presense in class, and/or provide important support in the classroom.
