Sabin Mt Readmore

Calling all Sabin community members,

Are you ready to climb Mt Readmore together? This winter, our risk-taking Sabin students will reach new heights by logging minutes of reading over three weeks. Our goal is to read 150,000 minutes to reach the summit of Mt Readmore while celebrating literacy in different ways along the way including:

  • Volunteering for the Children’s Book Bank

  • Enjoying assemblies and workshops with talented storyteller Will Hornyak

  • Partnering with Albina Library

  • Fundraising for books for teacher’s classroom libraries

  • Dressing up as our favorite book characters

We will prepare for this adventure by gathering for Basecamp Family Reading Night at school on Tuesday, January 24 from 6:00 - 8:00 pm. There will be dinner, s’more-flavored treats and lots of activities for K-5 students to take part in. We invite MYP students to join in to help with the evening activities.

See below to learn more about the trek ahead and thank you for joining us on this exciting educational journey.

Your climb leaders,

MT READMORE Q&A

What should we do to prepare for these events?

Sign your students up to tracking their reading through WhooosReading.org. Review the calendar and mark down the events you’re interested in taking part in.

Can my student log time without signing up for WhoosReading.org?

Yes! Paper forms will be available for families that would prefer not to sign up online.

Are students responsible to get sponsors to participate?

Students do not have to get sponsors to take part in Mt Readmore. This is a school-wide celebration of reading with a small fundraising component. The funds raised will be used to pay for the costs of the activities. All proceeds will be earmarked to support literacy. This year, the dollars will be used to help teachers expand their classroom libraries and add to the books for the Sabin Peace Garden Little Lending Library.

How do I sign up my child/ren to volunteer at the Children’s Book Bank?

The session can accommodate 12 participants - 2 adults and 10 children. Volunteers work on cleaning and repairing donated books. Learn more at www.childrensbookbank.org. The session is Monday, January 23 from 4:00-5:30 pm at 1915 NE 7th Avenue. To sign up for a slot, visit www.tinyurl.com/VolunteerBookBank.
